Why Vape Tanks Leak?
Before we discuss how to fix any leaking problems it’s important that you figure out why your vape tank is leaking in the first place so let’s go over all of the reasons:
1. Your coil head isn’t screwed into the base tightly enough – this one is pretty self-explanatory, all you need to do to fix this problem is screw your coil head in a little tighter, you can do this by either using a different type of screwdriver or just by hand if it’s easy enough to turn.
2. You didn’t tighten the atomizer head enough when replacing it – I see people make this mistake all the time! Make sure these things are tight, if you put your tank back together and the airflow seems restricted then it’s probably because your atomizer head isn’t screwed in all of the way.
3. Vape juice inside the air flow tube – yep! This is something that happens to everyone. You fill up your tank to the max line like I always show beginners but then what happens? You end up getting juice in your air flow tube which leads to leaking. All you need to do is take the tank apart and clean out the excess juice from your airflow tube, easy enough.
4. The O-ring isn’t sealing properly – this can be an issue with every vape tank, especially if it’s a top fill vape tank. An O-ring may be slightly deformed and loose which causes the vape juice to leak from the air flow slot, all you need to do to fix this is take out your atomizer head and turn the tank upside down with a cloth underneath it so nothing spills out. Once it’s upside down start shaking until any excess vape juice falls out then turn it back over and wipe off the base.
5. The atomizer head is screwed in all of the way – this one is pretty weird but some vape tanks have a problem where you screw the atomizer down too much which causes excess pressure to build up inside your tank and it eventually leads to leaking, especially if your vape tank is top fill.
How to Fix a Vape Tank That Keeps Leaking
Now that you know why your vape tank is leaking all you need to do now is fix it, right? As I said earlier there’s more than one reason why your vape tank would leak so I’m going to cover the most common solution for each of the reasons I just listed.
1. Your coil head isn’t screwed into the base tightly enough – this is one of the easiest problems to fix, all you need to do is take your tank apart and make sure that your coil head is screwed in really tight! If it is then there’s no problem at all but if not then make sure it’s nice and tight.
2. You didn’t tighten the atomizer head enough when replacing it – I’ve already said this many times but it needs to be said again because a lot of people don’t do this, make sure your atomizer heads are tightened down really well! The best way to do this is either with a screwdriver or by using your hands, in case you don’t know which way is which then check out my article on how to replace an atomizer head.
3. Vape juice inside the air flow tube – this one can be a little bit more difficult to fix but it’s pretty easy at the same time, all you need to do is take your tank apart and clean out the excess juice from your airflow tube, I recommend using a cloth.
4. The O-ring isn’t sealing properly – this is a really easy fix in my opinion because all you need to do is replace your old o-ring with a new one which will fix up the problem right away but I know not everyone has spare o-rings so just get one of those miniature tubes of clear silicone grease at your local vape shop and put a little bit on the o-ring which will make sure it seals properly.
5. The atomizer head is screwed in all of the way – this needs to be fixed because if you leave it then it will cause problems with your vape tank and it will also cause juice to leak out, so just take some of the leftover vape juice that’s inside your airflow tube and put it on the atomizer head o-ring because this will help it seal properly.
6. You filled up your e-liquid when there was still air in the tank – believe it or not a lot of people do this so it’s definitely worth mentioning, make sure you always put the e-liquid in when there’s no air inside the tank because if you don’t then it will lead to leaking.
As you can see there are many ways that your vape tank can leak and these problems aren’t too hard to fix, plus it’s very easy to do so you shouldn’t have any problems with fixing your vape tank leaks. There is still one more thing that I want to talk about which has nothing to do with why your vape tank may be leaking but it does pertain to the vaping industry in general and that is e-juice spit back.
How to Prevent Them from Leaking?
A lot of the time your vape tank will leak because you didn’t use it for a while and when you go to do so all the air in it has escaped, one easy way to stop this from happening which I’m sure most people already know about is that you just need to store your tank full of e-liquid so that the pressure inside it won’t change.
Another good tip that I would recommend is to always use a new coil head because this will stop your tank from leaking, why is that? Well, you just need to think about it for a moment and it will all make sense very quickly! You see when you replace the coil head then there’s no e-juice in it so the tank can’t leak, this makes sense doesn’t it?
The reason why your vape tank leaks have nothing to do with the coil head that’s inside of it and everything to do with what you’ve just been reading about, which means that you shouldn’t be afraid of replacing your atomizer heads all the time. Even if you do this it still might not stop your vape tank from leaking and that’s why you’re here looking for a solution.
When to Replace the Coil Head?
This is probably the number one question I get asked every day, using a new coil head will definitely make sure that your tank doesn’t leak but even when you replace it you will still have a chance at it leaking.
Now I’m not going to say that you should replace your coil head every week because I think that would be overkill, but if you do happen to notice that it doesn’t wick very well the next time then you probably need to replace it and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Conclusion:
